About Us

Michigan Justice Advocacy is a nonprofit organization established on the fundamental belief that every life holds value. This includes individuals who are currently, and who have been previously, incarcerated. By concentrating on Godly attributes such as forgiveness, kindness, repentance, accountability, rehabilitation, mercy, and grace, Michigan Justice Advocacy will strive to develop meaningful policies, programs, and legislation for all those affected by crime and incarceration.

Our mission is to advocate for legislative changes in the area of Criminal Justice Reform via direct and grassroots lobbying. Our first project is to see some form of a Good Time credit system return to law. To support this first project we will develop partnerships and a coalition with as many stakeholders as possible.

To date, we are actively lobbying (direct and grassroots) our legislature in hopes of developing a bill to bring back Good Time Credits. As you likely know, the legislative process can be lengthy; however, we are overjoyed to share that we anticipate having a completed draft of the Good Time bill ready to share with you and your families by mid May 2021. As is the case with many legislative pushes, often there is a need to pivot in the roll out. We initially anticipated introducing this legislation to Congress in June; however, we have been working out nuances of language with the Legislative Services Bureau and we feel most confident presenting this to Congress in September.

By mid-May, we plan to have our draft shared with lawmakers to gain multiple co-sponsorships.
We will work hard throughout the summer to educate the public, canvassing across the state
and preparing for a bill introduction in early September after we have spent the next 120 Days
telling everyone about how Good Time Makes Good Sense for the State of Michigan. We are tirelessly in contact with senators and state representatives from both sides of the aisle, as this is a bipartisan effort; MJA is a non-partisan organization. We have 100+ volunteers, 50+ interns, 250+ J-Pay incarcerated citizens, and 1000+ supporters across our social media platforms and growing!
